Introduction
Stainless Steel 904L is a high-alloy austenitic steel containing nickel, molybdenum, and copper. Stainless Steel 904L offers excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in acidic and chlorinated environments. Thanks to its low carbon content, Stainless Steel 904L also exhibits excellent weldability and very good resistance to intergranular cracking.

Corrosion Resistance
The 904L stainless steel has excellent resistance:
- To pitting corrosion
- Stress corrosion
- With sulfuric and phosphoric acids

Heat Resistance
904L stainless steel offers good oxidation resistance up to approximately 400°C – 450°C. It retains its mechanical properties even in demanding thermal environments.
Thermal treatment
The heat treatment of 904L includes:
- Solution annealing: 1090°C to 1175°C
- Rapid water cooling
This process improves corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
