Corrosion Resistance

Stainless Steel 310 offers excellent resistance to:

  • Atmospheric corrosion
  • High-temperature oxidation
  • Oxidizing gases
  • Organic acids
  • Industrial atmospheres
  • Moderate carburizing and sulfidizing environments

Its high chromium and nickel content provides exceptional oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. However, for marine or chloride-rich environments, Stainless Steel 316L or Duplex Stainless Steel is generally a more suitable choice.

Heat Resistance

Stainless Steel 310 is engineered for continuous operation in extremely high-temperature environments.

Service Temperature
  • Continuous Service: Up to approximately 1100°C
  • Intermittent Service: Up to approximately 1035°C
Benefits
  • Outstanding oxidation resistance
  • Excellent scaling resistance
  • Superior thermal stability
  • Good creep resistance
  • Excellent resistance to thermal cycling

Heat Treatment

Solution Annealing
  • Temperature: 1040°C – 1150°C
  • Cooling: Rapid air cooling or water quenching
Benefits
  • Restores corrosion resistance
  • Improves ductility
  • Relieves internal stresses
  • Optimizes mechanical properties

Stainless Steel 310 cannot be hardened by heat treatment but can be strengthened through cold working.

Welding of Stainless Steel 310

Grade 310 offers excellent weldability using standard welding techniques.

Recommended Welding Methods
  • GTAW (TIG)
  • GMAW (MIG)
  • SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
  • SAW (Submerged Arc Welding)
  • Resistance Welding
Welding Advantages
  • Excellent weld integrity
  • No preheating normally required
  • Good resistance to hot cracking
  • Excellent high-temperature performance

Post-weld pickling and passivation are recommended to restore the protective oxide layer and maximize corrosion resistance.
